As China’s annual college entrance examination, known as the gaokao, approaches on June 7, high schools across the country are introducing innovative stress-relief activities to help students manage anxiety and boost confidence.
In Xiangyang, Hubei Province, senior high school students took a break from their rigorous studies to participate in fun outdoor games. They also flew paper planes inscribed with personal wishes across the school field, symbolizing their hopes soaring towards the future.
Meanwhile, Suzhou Experimental High School in Jiangsu Province hosted a “Sending Blessings” event. Teachers and younger students offered emotional support and encouragement to the graduating class, fostering a supportive community atmosphere as they prepare for the 2025 gaokao.
According to China’s Ministry of Education, a record 13.35 million students have registered for this year’s gaokao. To keep pace with rapidly evolving industries, the ministry has also introduced 29 new interdisciplinary undergraduate majors. These programs, in cutting-edge fields such as artificial intelligence, carbon neutrality, and digital governance, will be available to applicants starting with this year’s admissions cycle.
As exam day approaches, these creative initiatives aim to alleviate stress and inspire students, reminding them that while the gaokao is important, their well-being is paramount.
