Nestled in the ancient city of Xi’an, a grove of pomegranate trees stands as a vibrant symbol of unity between China and Central Asia. Native to Central and West Asia, these trees have found a special home in Xi’an, bridging cultures and histories.
In 2023, during the China-Central Asia Summit held in Xi’an, leaders from China and Central Asian countries planted six pomegranate trees together. This act was more than ceremonial; it embodied the growing bonds and shared aspirations of the nations involved.
Two years later, our reporter Yang Yan revisited Xi’an to witness how these trees have grown. The pomegranates have flourished, their branches thick with leaves and fruit, mirroring the deepening relationships between China and its Central Asian neighbors.
Local residents and visitors alike are drawn to the grove, where the blossoming pomegranate trees serve as a reminder of the enduring friendship and cooperation in the region. “Every time I see these trees, I’m reminded of our connected futures,” said Li Ming, a university student in Xi’an.
As the pomegranate trees continue to thrive, so does the partnership between China and Central Asia, rooted in mutual respect and shared prosperity.
