While the U.S. emphasized military strength and deterrence, labeling China as a “threat,” China advocated for peace, cooperation, and a shared future among nations.
The U.S. Defense Secretary highlighted America’s commitment to the region, stating that achieving peace begins with deterring aggression. Plans were outlined to bolster U.S. military capabilities, including significant investments in advanced military hardware. The U.S. expressed concerns over China’s growing influence, accusing it of seeking regional hegemony.
China strongly criticized these remarks. The Chinese Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. for promoting a Cold War mentality and urged respect for the efforts of regional countries to maintain peace and stability. China emphasized its opposition to aggression and its commitment to joint development and prosperity.
Asia has long been a priority in China’s diplomacy. Chinese leadership has consistently emphasized “Asian values” of peace, cooperation, openness, and inclusiveness. China promotes a security model that focuses on dialogue and consultation, seeking common ground while setting aside differences. This approach has contributed to the region’s stability and prosperity since the end of the Cold War.
The U.S. has raised concerns among regional countries with its recent actions. By reiterating the “China threat” narrative, conducting military exercises in the South China Sea, and signaling intentions to increase arms sales to Taiwan, the U.S. actions have heightened tensions. Such moves threaten stability across the Taiwan Strait and challenge the one-China principle.
Traditional U.S. allies are also expressing unease. Leaders from other regions have emphasized the importance of pursuing greater strategic autonomy and diversifying security partnerships in the Asia-Pacific region.
In this context, it is crucial for regional countries to engage in open communication, express their shared aspirations for peace and development, and work together to prevent bloc confrontations. Through collective efforts, the Asia-Pacific region can ensure a stable and prosperous future for all.
