Chinese badminton players showcased their dominance at the Thailand Open on Sunday, securing victories in the women’s singles and mixed doubles events.
In the women’s singles final, China’s Chen Yufei triumphed over Thailand’s Pornpawee Chochuwong with a straight-games victory of 21-16, 21-12. The match, lasting just 48 minutes, saw Chen displaying remarkable skill and composure on the court.
Despite the relatively smooth week, Chen acknowledged that each round presented unique challenges. “I made several unforced errors,” she admitted after the match. “My physical condition has improved since returning to the court, but I’m still working to regain my previous speed and aggression.”
Currently ranked World No. 8, the 27-year-old is focusing on improving her ranking to secure favorable draws in future tournaments while balancing her physical condition to avoid injury.
In the mixed doubles final, Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping defeated fellow Chinese pair Gao Jiaxuan and Wu Mengying with scores of 24-22, 21-16. The experienced duo managed to prevail under pressure, particularly in the tightly contested first game.
After the match, Huang praised their younger compatriots. “They created immense difficulties for us during the match,” she said. “They tried their best to challenge us, just like we used to do against top players when we were younger.”
Malaysian shuttlers also made a strong impact in the doubles events. In the women’s doubles final, Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan overcame South Korea’s Jeong Na-eun and Lee Yeon-woo with scores of 21-16, 21-17. Meanwhile, in the men’s doubles, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik edged past Denmark’s William Kryger Boe and Christian Faust Kjaer in a hard-fought contest, winning 20-22, 21-17, 21-12.
The men’s singles final thrilled the home crowd as Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn defeated Denmark’s Anders Antonsen in three games, with scores of 21-16, 17-21, 21-9.
