Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz moved one step closer to a third consecutive Wimbledon title on Tuesday, making quick work of home favorite Cameron Norrie in straight sets. The 22-year-old Spanish sensation dominated the match, winning 6-2, 6-3, 6-3 to secure his spot in the semifinals.
Alcaraz showcased his formidable form from the outset, taking the first set 6-2 and building a commanding lead in the second. With this victory, he aims to join Bjorn Borg as the only men in the Open Era to achieve the Roland Garros-Wimbledon double in consecutive years.
Currently leading the ATP Tour with five titles this season, highlighted by his second French Open crown, Alcaraz continues to impress. His British opponent, Norrie, though yet to find his best form this year, has made significant strides by becoming only the fourth British man in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals multiple times.
Despite flashes of brilliance, Norrie couldn’t halt Alcaraz’s momentum. The world number two sealed the match with an ace, extending his winning streak to a career-best 23 matches. He also became the first player to qualify for this year’s ATP Finals.
Reflecting on his victory, Alcaraz said,
“I’m just really happy. To be able to play another semifinal here at Wimbledon is super special. It’s something that I wanted to do at the beginning of the week, just try to go as far as I can and give myself a chance to play a semifinal here. I’m just really happy with the level that I played today against a really difficult player like Cam. He’s an amazing player and an amazing guy as well.”
Looking ahead, Alcaraz will face Taylor Fritz for a place in the final as he continues his quest for a third consecutive Wimbledon championship.
