Strong 5.7 Magnitude Earthquake Hits South of Java, Indonesia

A magnitude-5.7 earthquake struck the southern region of Java, Indonesia, on Tuesday, according to the country’s Meteorological, Climatological and Geophysical Agency (BMKG). The quake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers beneath the earth’s surface.

Residents reported feeling strong tremors, but there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage. Importantly, the BMKG has not issued a tsunami alert following the earthquake.

“We felt the ground shake for several seconds. It was quite alarming,” said Ayu, a local student in Yogyakarta.

Indonesia is located on the Pacific “Ring of Fire,” an area known for frequent seismic activity. Earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are common, making preparedness essential for residents.

Authorities are monitoring the situation and have urged everyone to stay calm and follow any safety instructions from local officials.
