Trump Says India Trade Agreement is Close Europe Deal Possible

Trump Nears Trade Deal with India, Europe Agreement Also Possible

The United States is on the brink of finalizing a significant trade deal with India, President Donald Trump revealed in an interview on Wednesday. Speaking on Real America’s Voice, Trump expressed optimism about sealing agreements that could reshape global trade dynamics.

“We’re very close to India, and we could possibly make a deal with the European Union,” Trump said when asked about upcoming trade negotiations. His remarks come as both the EU and India have dispatched delegations to Washington for fresh talks, signaling a potential thaw in trade tensions.

Trump’s administration has been actively renegotiating trade agreements ahead of an August 1 deadline, when tariffs on most U.S. imports are set to increase. The aim is to secure better terms and reduce the substantial U.S. trade deficit.

“The European Union has been brutal, and now they’re being very nice. They want to make a deal, and it’ll be a lot different than the deal that we’ve had for years,” Trump added, hinting at significant changes in the previously strained U.S.-EU trade relations.

When asked about prospects with Canada, Trump was cautious. “Too soon to say,” he stated. This aligns with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s earlier comments indicating that a deal favorable to Canadian workers is not yet in sight.

Trump also mentioned the possibility of imposing a blanket 10 or 15 percent tariff on smaller countries if necessary, underscoring his administration’s tough stance on trade.
