European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde has emphasized the crucial role of China-Europe cooperation in fostering global economic stability and sustainable development. In an exclusive interview with CGTN’s Guan Xin on this week’s BizTalk, Lagarde praised the 50 years of mutually beneficial partnership between the two economies.
“The cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Europe has been a cornerstone of global growth,” Lagarde stated. She highlighted that in an era of uncertainties, collaboration is more important than ever. “Unilateralism only hinders the progress we’ve made collectively,” she added.
Lagarde also commended the resilience and innovation of the Chinese economy. “The adaptability and forward-thinking approach of the Chinese mainland are remarkable,” she said. “Together, we can tackle global challenges and propel the world economy forward.”
Her call for continued partnership comes at a time when international unity is essential to address pressing issues like climate change, technological advancement, and economic recovery post-pandemic. Lagarde believes that strengthening ties will not only benefit Europe and the Chinese mainland but also have a positive impact on the Global South.
“Young people around the world are the future,” Lagarde emphasized. “By working together, we can create opportunities for the next generation and ensure a sustainable and prosperous global economy.”
