Chinese Foreign Minister Meets African Envoys, Strengthens Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with African diplomatic envoys in Beijing on Monday to celebrate Africa Day and discuss strengthening China-Africa relations. Representatives from more than 50 African countries and the African Union attended the event.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, highlighted President Xi Jinping’s commitment to Africa, noting that the president has visited the continent five times. Wang emphasized the principles guiding China’s Africa policy—sincerity, real results, amity, and good faith—as well as the pursuit of shared interests.

“China’s relations with Africa have entered the best period in history,” Wang said, pointing out that the relationship has been elevated to an all-weather China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era.

He discussed the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit held in Beijing last September, where President Xi proposed six initiatives and ten partnership actions to advance modernization. Wang stated that China is ready to implement these outcomes, setting a benchmark for high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and accelerating common modernization efforts.

Amid global turbulence, Wang underscored the need for China and Africa to strengthen solidarity, oppose power politics, advocate multilateralism, and promote trade and investment liberalization. He affirmed China’s support for African countries to play a greater role on the international stage.

The African envoys expressed their appreciation for China’s initiatives and partnership actions, voicing confidence in Africa-China cooperation. They reaffirmed their commitment to the one-China principle, supporting China’s efforts to safeguard its sovereignty and oppose interference in its internal affairs.

Together, China and African countries aim to uphold the United Nations Charter’s purposes and principles and defend the common interests of nations in the Global South.
